Flow Characterization in Anomalous Hydraulic Turbine
We are looking for a motivated MSc student to join our research team at the Hydroelectricity Innovation Center (HEKI) at Université Laval. The fully funded project is part of MD-Francis, a five-year collaborative research initiative involving four universities and six industrial partners, focused on characterizing the impact of anomalies on hydraulic turbine operation.
🔬 Project Overview
In this MSc project, you will conduct advanced experimental investigations to characterize how foreign objects obstructing turbine runner channels affect flow dynamics.
🔍 Project Highlights

Perform state-of-the-art Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) measurements using our unique hydraulic turbine test stand

Conduct time-resolved pressure measurements

Integrate theory, measurements, data analysis & machine learning

Collaborate in an international, interdisciplinary research environment
💡 Ideal Candidate

BEng (or equivalent) in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering

Strong background in fluid mechanics

Programming experience

Curious, driven, and collaborative mindset
